Newsletter Issue 4 - Term 1 Week 8
Principal Report

Dear Parents and Families
Thank you for a great turn out at our events over the last few weeks, Harmony Day, Room 1 Assembly, swimming lessons and our 3-6 Swimming Carnival. It has been a week also of change with the restructure of our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Classes. It was a very difficult decision to make these changes, however with our declining kindergarten number and the need to make staffing changes, we unfortunately could not afford to recruit another staff member. I am so appreciative of the community’s understanding, but I also recognise the upset changes cause to our children and staff. I am doing my upmost to be creative with our finding allocations and respond to the statewide teacher shortage, and having such a wonderful staff is something we are blessed with at North.
I have been busy attending training in Perth as a new Principal and had the pleasure of attending the Principal Network conference in Karratha last week. The Pilbara direction under our newly appointed Director Mr Ashley King. We were privileged to be spoken to as a group about our region and the priorities for Education. The Pilbara will be focused on the following areas over 2025 include:
- Culturally Responsive
- Leadership
- Attendance
- Quality Teaching
- Staff and Student Well-Being
I also met our new Director General for Education Mr Jay Peckitt, who began this Year in the role as our leader. He was very approachable and keen to respond to the needs across the Western Australian Education System. The Pilbara Region priorities align with our 2025 Direction as we reflect against our Business Plan which is in its final year this year. As the year progresses, our leadership team will be seeking community input regarding our school and how we can be providing a tailored approach that suits the North Tom Price School Community. I am excited to begin this consultation process to better get to know and understand our whole community and ensure that we are a school that provides an inclusive approach and Cultural Safety. I have attached our 2025 Direction below.
I will be away again next week attending the Department Psychosocial Risk Management Training in Port Hedland, leaving the NTPPS ship in the cable hands of Tammy McCrystal and Andrea Griffin. Mrs Goesch will be taking leave for the next two weeks from the office to enjoy a well-deserved extended holiday.
If you have any queries about what we do at the school, please let me know either in person, or by email on nicole.hill@education.wa.edu.au
Kind regards,
Nicki Hill
Principal

Harmony Week

Harmony Day is a celebration that recognises diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Last week we celebrated Harmony Day at North Tom Price Primary School. Our students dressed in traditional attire or wore orange to commemorate the day. Students drew a picture of themselves and have created an amazing display for everyone to admire.
Swimming Carnival

There was an air of excitement at the Vic Hayton Swimming pool on Wednesday as we hosted the Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival. Spirits were high and the competition tight. Our swimmers made us proud by following instructions, waiting patiently for their events, and eagerly competing in their races. This event is a chance for students to embrace healthy competition, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship by supporting their peers – regardless of their House Faction. It’s also an opportunity to burn off some energy outside the classroom, enjoy the benefits of physical exercise outdoors and cheer on their peers. In addition to encouragement in the pool, students were cheered on by parents and staff from the sidelines. Well done to Meharry for taking out the win, to all the students for their participation and to the staff for all their hard work organising such a fantastic event.
